The Meaning Of Grief

Experiencing loss can lead to emotional suffering, known as grief. It can be associated with a loved one, a relationship, or even a job. Although grieving is a natural and normal response to loss, it can have an impact on a person’s ability to perform their daily functions, such as eating or sleeping. With time, the pain may lessen, but for some, it can linger for years.

Grief can include denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Sometimes, you may skip certain stages or encounter them in a different order.

Do you want to help someone who is grieving? The better your understanding of grief, the better equipped you’ll be to support your friend or family member. Here are the three points to keep in mind:
  • There is no right or wrong way to grieve.
  • Grief may involve extreme emotions and behaviours.
  • There is no set timetable for grieving.
