Each parent wants to defend his or her child not only from the disease but also from the fears closely connected with it. When you care for your child, you have to do the following:
- calm them down,
- provide with the important information
What exactly can you do for your child now depends on the child’s age?
For children under 6, it’s enough just to tell that everything will be OK with them. And we strongly recommend being careful and behave according to what you are saying. Don’t forget that they hear and analyze everything. Do you remember your parents thinking that you don’t pay attention to what they are discussing with guests or arguing in the kitchen?
It is equally important not only to learn the main rules with your child but also to explain why it is so important to wash their hands, not to drink from the same bottle with other children or to keep the physical distance especially from people who are coughing.
The last but not the least is to tell your child that he or she can hear different information about the virus at school or from their friends. Many men many minds. Teach them how to react to this information and how to answer.
Your explanation has to be very different if you are talking to an adolescent. Teenagers won’t believe if you just tell him or her that everything will be fine and you control the situation. Give them facts, statistics, authoritative sources of information to read or follow.
So, the three ways of talking to your children about the COVID-19 are:
- calming,
- behaving accordingly,
- providing each child with the information in the language he or she understands.
Keep calm and like if it was helpful to you and your Family
