Just a few tips that will enable you to help your loved one:
- Educate yourself about illness anxiety. You can’t help yourself if you don’t know for sure what you are fighting with.
- Talk and listen. It shouldn’t be a topic to avoid. You may need to establish time limits on when, how often, or for how long the two of you will talk about illness anxiety.
- Encourage their participation in treatment, as it’s a real problem that requires treatment.
Be attentive not to over help. Don’t feed into their anxiety by “checking” everything for them.
