Do you find it difficult to make decisions? This could be a sign of anxiety or an underlying issue. However, there are some helpful ways to manage this problem through thought shifts:
- Accept that there is rarely a “perfect” choice.
- Recognize that many decisions we make may not have permanent consequences. We may be able to make adjustments to our decisions in the future.
- Identify the values you seek to boost your confidence and acceptance of your decisions.
- Try “satisficing” as a strategy that simplifies the process of making decisions. It can save both time and mental energy while still reaching the minimum goal for decisions.
- Ask for professional help. Cognitive behavioural therapy can teach you helpful decision-making skills, including recognizing the maladaptive thoughts that hinder your ability to make decisions, as well as to cope with decision outcomes.
